Local Experts to Discuss Lung Cancer Prevention, Screening at Free Online Event

Led by the American Lung Association, the public webinar will feature local experts discussing lung cancer prevention, tobacco cessation, lifesaving screening and more

CHARLOTTE, NC | October 25, 2021

On Thursday, November 4 at 12 p.m., the American Lung Association will host North Carolina Community Connections, presented by Novant Health and Wells Fargo. This free 30-minute educational webinar will feature a community leader, physician and lung cancer survivor who will discuss lung cancer screening and prevention.

North Carolina Community Connections is an educational speaker series focused on lung health. During the November event for Lung Cancer Awareness Month, the public is invited to hear from experts who will discuss lung cancer prevention, tobacco cessation, lifesaving screening and the newest lung cancer treatments. Attendees will also get a chance to ask the experts questions about lung cancer.

The event will be moderated by Spectrum News North Carolina health and wellness reporter Kari Beal and feature notable speakers, including: 

  • Rajat Kumar, MD, Novant Health Cancer Institute, Cardiothoracic Surgeon
  • Mike Smith, Stage IV Lung Cancer Survivor
  • Kim Bayha, CTTS, Tobacco Prevention & Control Supervisor; Office of Policy & Prevention for Mecklenburg County Public Health
