LUNG FORCE Run/Walk Returns to Riverfront on August 21

American Lung Association event to fund lifesaving lung cancer research, help end lung disease

Today, the American Lung Association in Florida announced that this year’s LUNG FORCE Run/Walk will take place at the Haskell Company on Saturday, August 21. For the event, participants will run or walk a 5K along the St. Johns River to help raise awareness and funds to end lung cancer and lung disease.

“We are so happy to bring our LUNG FORCE Run/Walk back to Haskell, where we can gather safely to raise money for a critical cause – clean air and healthy lungs,” said Bethany Webb, development manager for the Lung Association. “Because of the global pandemic, it is more important than ever to support lung health. In fact, COVID-19 is a respiratory disease, and people who live with lung diseases like lung cancer, COPD and pulmonary fibrosis are at a high risk for severe complications of COVID-19.”

This is the 7th year of the LUNG FORCE Run/Walk in Jacksonville. Last year, the event was held virtually during the month of November for the safety of participants, volunteers, and staff. During this year’s event, the Lung Association will implement extensive health and safety measures for participants, volunteers, and staff. These include COVID-19 health screenings, mask requirements, limited capacity, physical distancing, extensive sanitation and much more. The organization is also offering a “Walk Your Way” option for those who are not able to make the in-person event.

Money raised at the LUNG FORCE Run/Walk will fund the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung cancer and lung disease, as well as support the organization’s COVID-19 Action Initiative. The COVID-19 Action Initiative is an investment to address COVID-19 and protect against future respiratory virus pandemics. The initiative works with public and private entities to increase research collaboration and develop new vaccines, detection tests and treatment therapies.

Registration for the Jacksonville LUNG FORCE Run/Walk is $30 for adults and $25 for children. For more information and to register, visit
