Leading Local Financial Firm Reinvests in Healthy Lungs

Continues support to Lung Association’s efforts in Kansas and Greater Kansas City area

The American Lung Association in Kansas & Greater Kansas City announced that Empower, for the 6th consecutive year, signed on as the presenting sponsor of the 2022 Fight For Air Climb at Children’s Mercy Park, home of Sporting Kansas City, on June 11th.

“Through events like the Climb, we can fund our work to improve air quality, educate residents on lung health and help people who suffer from lung disease in our community,” said Linda Crider, executive director of the Lung Association. “But we can't do it alone. From funding asthma education, to delivering lung cancer resources, it is because of partnerships like we have with Empower that we’re able to help improve people’s lung health daily.”

Nearly 1.4 million people suffer from lung disease in Kansas and Missouri, and this year alone, it is estimated that 2,190 Kansas residents and 5,690 Missouri residents will be diagnosed with lung cancer. The Fight For Air Climb attracts hundreds of individuals, families and corporate teams to race up thousands of steps to raise awareness and funds to help end lung disease. This year’s event features a new multi-climb challenge for participants.

“Empower is pleased to sponsor this important event and support the American Lung Association’s ongoing work to promote healthy lungs and advocate for strong laws, rules and policies that improve lung health and clean the air we breathe,” said Steve Jenks, chief marketing officer of Empower. “The annual climb is a great activity that brings the community together around health and quality of life. We cannot think of a better way to spend a day that is fun and advances crucial work and research.”

89 cents of every dollar raised at the Climb goes directly to programs, services and research in Kansas and Greater Kansas City. Visit FightForAirClimb.org/KansasCity for more information and to register for the event.

The Lung Association strongly recommends that all Climb participants be fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Participants, volunteers, and staff are encouraged to wear a mask in high traffic areas at the event. The organization will continue to closely monitor public health conditions and CDC guidelines related to COVID-19.
