Nonprofits are suffering from decreased donations and cancelled fundraisers due to the pandemic, but the American Lung Association in Iowa is breathing a sigh of gratitude today as EMC Insurance Companies again agreed to be the presenting sponsor of the Association's 18th annual Fight For Air Climb at Principal Park on May 15.
As the presenting sponsor for the third consecutive year, EMC Insurance Companies is proud to invest in the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung disease and COVID-19 through life-saving research.
"Though the pandemic shift shows positive signs, all nonprofits are continuing to struggle. Lung health and clean air are still critical to the health of our communities. EMC Insurance Companies understands this and we’re grateful for their dedication to our mission and support of the services we provide the community," said Micki Sandquist, executive director of the Lung Association.
“Without partners like EMC, the Fight For Air Climb and our important work in Iowa would not be possible."
"We recognize that now more than ever it’s important for us to support organizations like the Lung Association because of the work they’re doing during the pandemic and to end COVID-19," said Sarah Buckley, Assistant Vice President of Community Involvement at EMC Insurance Companies.
The event typically takes place in the stairwells of four buildings in Downtown Des Moines but was reimagined as an outdoor climb challenge for the safety of participants, volunteers and staff. Last year, EMC Insurance Companies had 53 climbers on their team. This year, they are forming a team and taking advantage of the “Climb Your Way” option which is for those who can’t make it to the physical event.
EMC is in the top 50 insurance organizations in the U.S. and is one of the largest in Iowa. Founded in 1911, the company has more than 2,500 employees and provides property and casualty insurance products and services throughout the U.S.
Money raised at the Fight For Air Climb will fund the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung cancer and lung disease, as well as support the Lung Association’s COVID-19 Action Initiative. The COVID-19 Action Initiative is a $25 million investment to address COVID-19 and protect against future respiratory virus pandemics. The initiative works with public and private entities to increase research collaboration and develop new vaccines, detection tests and treatment therapies.
Registration for the Fight For Air Climb is $35, and includes a fundraising minimum of $100. Register today, as space is limited in person. For more information, and to register, visit FightForAirClimb.org/DesMoines.
The safety of participants, volunteers and staff is always our number one priority. We are continually monitoring local conditions that might affect your Climb. Check your local Climb website for the most up-to-date information.
