Asthma Hike for Kids to be Held at Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge

Guided program to provide education, outdoor exercise for asthmatic children and their families

On June 18th, 2022, the American Lung Association in Colorado will host an educational event for children living with asthma and their families at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge in Commerce City, CO. The Lung Association’s Asthma Hike for Kids is in partnership with Always Choose Adventures, Children’s Hospital Colorado and Denver Health.

“The kids and their families going on this hike are in for a real treat. Seeing the wildlife and pristine plains of this natural sanctuary is enough to impress even the most intrepid hikers,” said Ellen Penrod, Executive Director at the Lung Association. “In addition, children will gain the experience of exercising in a welcoming and supportive environment to bolster their confidence in managing the challenges of asthma. This event is for all the kids living with asthma as well as their families.”

The Asthma Hike for Kids will feature asthma education from medical professionals, including programming on preparing for exercise and advocating for medical needs. The event will provide complementary busing transportation and sweeping views of Colorado’s natural beauty for the whole family.

There is a $10 registration fee per family to attend the event. To inquire about scholarships, contact Ellen Penrod at [email protected].
