DENVER, CO | March 16, 2021
Today, the American Lung Association in Colorado announced that Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Colorado, a leading health insurance company in the state, is again the presenting sponsor for the first-ever outdoor Anthem Fight For Air Climb at Coors Field on May 8. The investment will fund life-saving research and support the Lung Association COVID-19 Action Initiative.
In addition to their financial support, Anthem associates have participated for many years by forming a climb team. Some participate to memorialize or honor a loved one who has suffered from lung disease or lung cancer, and others climb for the physical challenge. The team has raised thousands of dollars every year for the Lung Association.
“Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield has sponsored this event since it began 16 years ago. They are a big reason we’re able to provide our resources to the Denver community,” said Ellen Penrod, Executive Director for the Lung Association. “This is important now more than ever as we work to end COVID-19. The continued support from Anthem makes a real difference in getting through this pandemic.”
“Anthem has enjoyed our longstanding association with Colorado’s Fight for Air Climb,” said Charles Ritz, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.“ “It is a great community event that encourages healthy, active lifestyles while raising money to further the critical work of the American Lung Association in Colorado.”
This is the 16th year of the Fight For Air Climb in Denver. The event typically takes place in the stairwells of Republic Plaza but was reimagined as an outdoor climb challenge for the safety of participants, volunteers and staff. The organization is also offering a “Climb Your Way” option for those who can’t make it to the physical event.
Registration is now open for the event, which invites individuals, families, groups of friends, corporate teams and first responders to tackle the stadium stairs, totaling a mile long climb up and down.
“Masks will be required at the event and social distancing will be practiced. The safety of participants, staff and volunteers is always our number one priority, so we are continually monitoring local conditions that might affect the Climb. Everyone is encouraged to check our Climb website for the most up-to-date information leading up to the event.”
Money raised at the Fight For Air Climb will fund the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung cancer and lung disease, as well as support the Lung Association’s COVID-19 Action Initiative. The COVID-19 Action Initiative is a $25 million investment to address COVID-19 and protect against future respiratory virus pandemics. The initiative works with public and private entities to increase research collaboration and develop new vaccines, detection tests and treatment therapies.
Registration for the Fight For Air Climb is $35 and includes a $100 fundraising minimum. For more information, and to register, visit FightForAirClimb.org/Denver.
