Today, the American Lung Association in Florida announced that this year’s LUNG FORCE Run/Walk presented by AdventHealth will take place at SeaWorld on Saturday, May 8. For the event, participants will run or walk a 5K through SeaWorld, where they will see all the main features of the park.
“Hosting our LUNG FORCE Run/Walk at SeaWorld presents a fun and unique experience for local runners, walkers and families, while raising money for a critical cause – clean air and healthy lungs,” said Janelle Hom, executive director for the Lung Association. “Because of the global pandemic, it is more important than ever to support lung health. In fact, COVID-19 is a respiratory disease, and people who live with lung diseases like lung cancer, COPD and pulmonary fibrosis are at a high risk for severe complications of COVID-19.”
This is the 7th year of the LUNG FORCE Run/Walk in Orlando, but the first year that it will be held at SeaWorld. The event was previously held at Baldwin Park. During the event, the Lung Association will implement extensive health and safety measures for participants, volunteers and staff. These include COVID-19 health screenings, mask requirements, limited capacity, physical distancing, extensive sanitation and much more. The organization is also offering a “Walk Your Way” option for those who are not able to make the in-person event.
Money raised at the LUNG FORCE Run/Walk will fund the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung cancer and lung disease, as well as support the organization’s COVID-19 Action Initiative. The COVID-19 Action Initiative is an investment to address COVID-19 and protect against future respiratory virus pandemics. The initiative works with public and private entities to increase research collaboration and develop new vaccines, detection tests and treatment therapies.
“During this challenging time, it’s important for all those living with lung cancer and lung disease, including COVID-19, to feel hope, optimism, and support,” Hom added.
Registration for the Orlando LUNG FORCE Run/Walk is $35 for adults and $25 for children. Participants will also receive discounted tickets for SeaWorld. For more information and to register, visit LUNGFORCE.org/Orlando.
