Today, the American Lung Association in Greater Chicago, in partnership with the National Mother’s Day Council, announced the Outstanding Mother Awards honorees. These three Chicago women will be recognized for their ability to balance their personal and professional lives, while making an impact in the community.
Julie Honor, General Counsel, 3Q Digital: Honor oversees 3Q Digital’s legal and human resources functions. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Honor struggled through isolation with two young kids like so many other parents. She is forever grateful for 3Q Digital’s supportive environment for parents, her daycare providers and daycare families, her Mom Groups, and the Peloton Law Moms Facebook community. Outside of work (and in non-pandemic times), she loves to travel with her husband, Jonathan, and two children, Joanna and Jackson.
Olufunmilayo Olopade, MD, Oncologist, the University of Chicago Medicine: Dr. Olopade is an expert in cancer risk assessment and individualized treatment for the most aggressive forms of breast cancer. A recipient early in her career of a MacArthur Fellowship, she has been honored by the National Academy of Medicine, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society. She served on the board of directors for the American Board of Internal Medicine, the National Cancer Advisory Board, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Dr. Olopade and her husband, Dr. Christopher Olopade, have three children: Feyi, Dayo and Tobi.
Liz Smith, President, Assurance, a Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC Company: Smith is the top employee benefits professional at Assurance, advising the company’s benefits consultants and creating and maintaining strategic relationships with carriers and other vendor partners. Like so many parents, Liz struggled with pandemic parenting, but used that experience to help ensure all working parents at Assurance felt supported and appreciated. Liz is the proud mother of two daughters, Lauren and Madeline, and will soon gain three stepchildren, Gianna, Nicole & Matthew, when she marries her fiancé, Tony.
The virtual Outstanding Mother Awards event on May 11 offers sponsorship opportunities and is free to watch, as well as opportunities to donate throughout the event. Money raised will fund education, life-saving research and advocacy efforts for the Lung Association’s mission to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.
