LUNG FORCE Expo Focuses on Educating Health Professionals on Lung Cancer

Virtual event on December 8 to allow nurses, doctors, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to go in-depth on the subject of lung cancer – the leading cancer killer

Today, the American Lung Association announced the national virtual LUNG FORCE Expo, set for December 8, will focus exclusively on lung cancer. At the event, leading experts will speak about lung cancer risk factors treatments, diagnosis and much more to provide healthcare professionals with knowledge that will improve the future of lung cancer care.

The virtual LUNG FORCE Expo is an opportunity for healthcare professionals to learn about the latest trends in research, treatments and recommendations for lung cancer. In addition to the educational sessions on December 8, the LUNG FORCE Expo includes two networking sessions on December 7 with roundtable discussions on provider self-care, reaching patients in rural settings, and patient education tools and resources.

“Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer deaths among women and men, but there is hope. More Americans than ever are surviving lung cancer. The survival rate has increased 14.5% nationally to 23.7% in the last five years,” said Albert Rizzo, MD, Chief Medical Officer for the American Lung Association. “Increased awareness about lung cancer screening and new treatments for lung cancer are vital to improving survival. Since healthcare professionals are often the first people to talk to their high-risk patients about screening and lung cancer patients about treatments, it is critical that they have access to the latest information.”

The event will feature some of the leading experts presenting on topics like:

  • Lung Cancer in Nonsmokers, presented by Margaret Johnson, MD – Mayo Clinic of Florida
  • Dealing with Grief as a Healthcare Provider, presented by Larry Pruitt, PhD – VA Puget Sound Healthcare System
  • Novel Lung Cancer Diagnostics, presented by John Travaline, MD – Temple Lung Center
