Atlanta LUNG FORCE Run/Walk Set for Jim R. Miller Park on December 4

American Lung Association event to fund lifesaving lung cancer research, help end lung disease

Today, the American Lung Association in Georgia announced that this year’s LUNG FORCE Run/Walk will take place at Jim R. Miller Park in Marietta on Saturday, December 4. For the event, participants will run or walk a 5K to help raise awareness and funds to end lung cancer and lung disease.

“We are so happy to bring our LUNG FORCE Run/Walk back to an in-person event, where we can gather safely to raise money for a critical cause – clean air and healthy lungs,” said Rochelle Smalls, Executive Director for the Lung Association. “Because of the global pandemic, it is more important than ever to support lung health. In fact, COVID-19 is a respiratory disease, and people who live with lung diseases like lung cancer, COPD and pulmonary fibrosis are at a high risk for severe complications of COVID-19.”

Last year, the LUNG FORCE Run/Walk was held virtually during the month of November for the safety of participants, volunteers, and staff. During this year’s event, the Lung Association will implement extensive health and safety measures. The organization is also offering a “Walk Your Way” option for those who are not able to make the in-person event.

Money raised at the LUNG FORCE Run/Walk will fund the Lung Association’s efforts to end lung cancer and lung disease, as well as support the organization’s COVID-19 Action Initiative. The COVID-19 Action Initiative is an investment to address COVID-19 and protect against future respiratory virus pandemics. The initiative works with public and private entities to increase research collaboration and develop new vaccines, detection tests and treatment therapies.

Thank you to Northside Hospital for supporting the LUNG FORCE Run/Walk as the Signature Sponsor of the event. Registration for the LUNG FORCE Run/Walk is $35. Residents can get more information and register at the Atlanta LUNG FORCE Run/Walk website.
