I am a caring for someone with pulmonary fibrosis

After someone you know has been diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, you might be thrown into a caregiver role and wonder, what now?

Step 1:
Learn all you can about pulmonary fibrosis. Knowledge really is power and your loved one might not feel well enough to do research. Using the navigator, select "I am newly diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis" for key insights.

Step 2:
Discuss with your loved one how you can best support him/her. You want your loved one to maintain independence, but you also want to be helpful. Sometimes talking it out helps both parties express their needs. One big way you can help is by learning how to use their oxygen equipment safely.

Step 3:
Practice self-care. When your needs are taken care of, you can be a better caregiver. Make sure there is time for you to do what you enjoy. Eat right, exercise and get plenty of sleep. Don’t forget to stay up-to-date on your vaccinations. Staying healthy is one of the best ways you can help your loved one.

Step 4:
Find support. Join an online support community or an in-person support group.
