The Partners for Asthma Action program in Minnesota has significantly reduced asthma-related emergency department visits, hospitalizations, and school absences. In fact, this program has proven to decrease asthma emergency department visits and hospitalization by 55 percent. The key to the program is three-fold: working with asthma clinics to improve care, removing asthma triggers in the children's home and providing asthma education on medications, triggers and lifestyle. With kids receiving less medical care, they are in school more to learn, parents are able to go to work and healthcare spending is drastically decreased.

The program began in Minnesota over and has grown to five other markets. It is also expanding to incorporate COPD in the near future. Partners for Asthma Action is funded locally by United Health Foundation.
