From Your Local Lung Association

Dear Friends,

In the short time required to read this message, you will have taken approximately 30 breaths.  Did you notice?

For most of you, the answer is “no”.  In fact, the act of breathing is routine and effortless.

Conversely, for the nearly 5 million residents of our 4-state region diagnosed with a chronic lung disease such as asthma, COPD, or lung cancer, each and every breath can be a struggle.  And approximately 12 million individuals in our region currently live in cities and counties with poor air quality, exposing their lungs to risk from disease-causing pollutants.  These are our family members, neighbors, co-workers and friends - young and old - who truly know what it means to Fight For Air.

More than ever, the American Lung Association of the Midland States is committed to meet the lung health needs of those we serve.  As a recognized leader in the fight against lung disease, people look to us for cures; as a champion for clean air; for keeping our kids smoke-free and now, through our Lung Force Campaign, as an important resource for lung cancer patients and caregivers.

In the following text you will read about a number of accomplishments highlighting the work of the American Lung Association of the Midland States in FY2016.  Bringing this report to life are many children winning over asthma, researchers dedicating their careers searching for cures, parents keeping promises to their kids to quit smoking, patients learning to manage their disease, and countless men and women taking risks and making sacrifices to help others breathe easier.

Any accomplishments we can share in this report are made possible through the generous support of our contributors and through the time and talent of our volunteers.  Working together, we have a wealth of resources, experience and knowledge to draw upon.  Together, we are supporting patients and empowering healthcare providers.  Together, we are driving policy change and raising funds for life-saving research. Together, we are making lung disease a cause that people care about and act on.

For those who have not joined our cause, our call to action is this –

Make a donation. Volunteer. Take part in a walk, stair climb or gala. Raise your voice. Take action. Inspire others.

Thank you.
