Iowa Smokefree Victory

The Iowa Smokefree Air Act went into effect July 1, 2008.

Implementation of the Smokefree Air Act was successfully managed by the Iowa Department of Public Health Division of Tobacco Use Prevention and Control, the Alcohol and Beverage Division and the Iowa Attorney General's Office. The American Lung Association in Iowa and our partners assisted in educating business owners about the law and answering questions from business leaders and community members.

The law requires all public places post a smoke-free air sign at every entrance to a public place and place of employment where smoking is not allowed, and at every entrance to outdoor areas where smoking is not allowed. Signs must also be posted in public vehicles and in vehicles owned, leased or provided by an employer.

More information about the sign requirements and the Iowa Smokefree Air Act can be found at .
