Cigarette Taxes in Illinois

On July 1, 2019 the state cigarette tax was raised to $2.98/pack. This state tax is in addition to the current Federal cigarette tax of $1.01/pack. A county tax is in addition to the state and federal taxes, and city taxes are in addition to the county, state and federal taxes.

Currently, the City of Chicago has the highest combined cigarette tax in the country ($1.01 Federal tax, $2.98 Illinois state tax, $3.00 Cook County tax, $1.18 city tax).
