From Your Local Lung Association
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Reflecting back on 2016, we realize how fortunate we are to have such enduring and generous supporters of our life-saving work. We, at the American Lung Association of the Southeast, are grateful for those who champion our vision of a world free of lung disease. Without such incredible individuals, families, foundations and businesses, we could not accomplish so many milestones. We’ll take this opportunity in our annual report to highlight some exciting accomplishments, which you helped make possible.
In the second year of LUNG FORCE, a national initiative that unites women and men in the fight against the #1 cancer killer; lung cancer, we are building momentum, awareness and engagement. Lung cancer is increasing among women, affecting our mothers, daughters, sisters and loved ones across all races and ethnicities. With LUNG FORCE, we’re working to:
- Make lung cancer a cause that’s personal and meaningful – mobilizing people to act.
- Educate and empower patients and healthcare providers.
- Raise critical funds for lung cancer research.
Supporters like you have participated in events and projects throughout the Southeast to help us improve lung health and prevent lung disease. Through your generosity, we also provide vital education and support resources in your community. These programs, which include our Asthma Basics, Asthma Camps, Better Breathers Clubs, Freedom from Smoking, the Lung Helpline, and LUNG FORCE Expos, help us improve the health of your community and protect those near and dear to you.
We’re also pleased to share with you that in fiscal year 2016, we spent 83 cents of every dollar on research, education and advocacy in the Southeast, which includes, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, North Carolina and South Carolina. On behalf of our dedicated staff and our passionate volunteers, we thank you. And we ask you to remember that our work isn’t done, and we won’t stop fighting until we can all breathe easier.
Together, we are making that happen.
