American Lung Association in Delaware's Asthma Camp, written by Ashley Watson
Asthma Camp has been a wonderful experience for our two children Zachary and Josephine ages 10 and 8. This was Zachary's (10) second year attending Asthma Camp and Josephine's (8) first year. Zachary learned so much his first year and gained so much confidence on being able to control his asthma in his daily activities that he wanted to return the following with his sister to share that experience and learn more! This year Josephine was a little apprehensive but knowing her brother was with her she was ready. She too was so excited! They both came home this year knowing what triggers to watch for, why they needed to be aware of those triggers, the importance of their medicine, but also that they can go about their day and have fun; that their asthma doesn't have to take away from them being a kid, and to see other kids dealing with the same things made them feel not so alone in this. They had a blast! The staff of nurses and counselors were wonderful! They paid special attention to all of Josephine's dietary restrictions and I never once felt nervous about leaving either of them in their care. We look forward to this experience in the summer and are so grateful to have this opportunity. The kids are already asking when Asthma Camp is next year!
