The American Lung Association in Pennsylvania had an amazing top new fundraising team for the Pittsburgh Fight For Air Climb - Kim Swartz's "Dane's Divas and Dudes." Kim's husband, Dane, passed away in 2011 from lung cancer.
His diagnosis was a shock to the family, because Dane was healthy and active; a non-smoker and athletic. They started a team in Pittsburgh, because Kim has family there. Dane's Divas and Dudes is made up of family and friends, including Doug Pike, who was Dane's best friend when they were growing up. Four months after Dane passed away, Doug's dad also died of lung cancer. Friends and family now travel to the Fight For Air Climb in Pittsburgh from across the U.S. to participate in their honor.
Run for Benno is led by Karen McFadden, long-time volunteer for the Radnor Run. Securing the support of local businesses, colleagues, friends and neighbors in the community, Karen brought a number of new sponsors to the race over the years. Karen has volunteered and promoted the race along with her close friends, Lois and Ben Sack. In the spring of 2016, Ben Sack passed away. That's when Karen started the Run for Benno team. Run for Benno received the Top Fundraising Team award, raising $4,638.
They also had a record-breaking team, the largest team ever to participate in the race: 75 members came together to remember Ben.
