From Your Local Lung Association
2016 marked an exciting year for special events in California. We celebrated milestones and saw strong growth in many of our events compared to previous years:
- More than 4,000 Californians participated in our LUNG FORCE Walks, raising $550,000 to fight lung cancer while also engaging our LUNG FORCE Heroes. Nearly all of our Walks saw participant growth over 2015; our San Diego Walk is the second largest LUNG FORCE Walk in the country.
- 3,000 people participated in our Fight For Air Climbs in 2016. The Los Angeles Climb had nearly 30% revenue growth over 2015, and the San Francisco Climb celebrated its 10th anniversary. The San Francisco Climb has raised more than $3.5 million since the first event in 2006.
- California had four remarkable honorees for our LUNG FORCE Galas which led to double digit revenue growth. The Los Angeles Gala honored Dr. Jonathan Fielding, a national leader in the fight against Big Tobacco. The San Diego Gala honored Dr. Denny Amundson, the City of Chula Vista and ASI Heating, and they increased revenue by 83%
On behalf of all those who struggle to breathe, we thank all of our event participants, volunteers and sponsors for making a difference in the fight for healthier lungs and cleaner air.
