Mike Carr

Mike Carr, Mid-Atlantic

On June 26, 2015, Mike Carr was awarded the 2015 Volunteer Excellence Award at the American Lung Association 2015 Awards Dinner in Chicago, IL.

Mike Carr has been active with the American Lung Association of the Mid-Atlantic since 2011.  He lost a friend to COPD in 2010 and started a stair climb team for the FY2011 Philadelphia Fight for Air Climb.

Over the past 4 years, through registrations and fundraising his Stair Climb team, Team Stab Plus, raised over $100,000.  In 2014 Mike Carr had the second largest stair climb team in the country with 124 members. He was the 2014 Philadelphia Fight for Air Climb Event Chair and began a two year term July 1st as the Philadelphia Leadership Board Chair.

Since his term began, Mike has recruited three new active board members who are very engaged in our mission.  Mike has made accountability a main priority for Board Members as well as their involvement in local events through creating teams or fundraising.  The most impactful volunteer experience he felt was educating kids around the dangers of smoking during an asthma education night at a local Philadelphia Charter School.  His first thought is always around how he can continue to expand our reach and help us achieve our mission.  When out networking, whether it’s at an event or in his personal life, he is always thinking of the American Lung Association.

Mike Carr not only leads by example but with his heart.  He has no shame in asking for what he wants and expecting the best from his peers.  He is driven by results and he certainly aspires to his goals.  Mike’s character is inspiring and his dedication is contagious.
