Today, the American Lung Association in Kansas & Greater Kansas City announced that Empower Retirement has signed on as the presenting sponsor of the Fight For Air Climb at One Kansas City Place. This is the third year that the company has sponsored the event, which includes an investment of $20,000 that will fund local programs to support clean air and healthy lungs.

The Fight For Air Climb, set for February 24, 2019, invites individuals, families, groups of friends, corporate teams and first responders to race up the stairs of One Kansas City Place (42 floors, 902 steps) to raise awareness and money to fight lung disease.

“Through events like the Fight For Air Climb, we are able to fund our work to improve air quality, educate residents on lung health and help people who suffer from lung disease,” said Linda Crider, executive director the Lung Association. “But we can’t do it alone. Through our partnership with  Empower Retirement, we can provide vital support to our community. From funding asthma education, to providing resources to those suffering from lung cancer, this support helps make people’s lives better every day.”

Empower Retirement is the second largest retirement services provider in the country. Based in Colorado, its local operation is located in Overland Park and employs some 1,000 workers.

“It is key to our company culture to support the communities where so many of our employees work and live. The American Lung Association’s work to support clean air and healthy lungs affects us all, so we are proud to be involved with the Fight For Air Climb,” said Tracy Garry, Head of Client Management and Consulting for Empower Retirement and Local Leadership Board member for the Lung Association in Kansas and Greater Kansas City. “We hope to see our community come together for a fun and inspiring event in February.”

More than 800,000 people suffer from lung disease in Kansas and Missouri, and this year alone, it is estimated that more than 5,700 people in Missouri and 2,000 people in Kansas will be diagnosed with lung cancer. The Fight For Air Climb raises awareness for lung disease, raises money for life-saving research, and funds critical local programing like educational programs to help local children better manage their asthma and free programs to help locals quit smoking.

Registration for the 2019 Fight For Air Climb is currently open online or by calling 913-353-9165. Climbers can register for a discounted price of $15 before January 16.
