Indiana State Health Commissioner Dr. Kristina Box will be the keynote speaker for the LUNG FORCE Expo on September 14, the American Lung Association in Indiana announced today. For the event, hundreds of local lung disease patients, caregivers, nurses, respiratory therapists and other healthcare professionals will attend to watch Dr. Box’s presentation as well as a full day of educational seminars about lung disease.
“Dr. Box has a passion for improving the health of Hoosiers, beginning before birth,” said LaToija Snodgrass, manager of health promotions for the Lung Association. “She will speak on the important and very prevalent topic of controlling asthma while pregnant, which is vital information for nurses and respiratory therapists in Indiana.”
Dr. Box is a practicing obstetrician and gynecologist in Indianapolis. She started her career at Community Hospitals of Indianapolis in 1987 as a private practitioner with Clearvista Women's Care. Since 2015, she has served as the Physician Lead for Community Health Network's Women's Service Line. In this role, she built the first multi-disciplinary women’s center in the Community Health Network, developed critical partnerships with area children’s hospitals to improve care and decrease health care costs, and led efforts to ensure that low-income women receive the important free health screenings they need.
“Reducing Indiana’s infant mortality rate starts by improving the health of expectant mothers,” Dr. Box said. “By controlling asthma before and during pregnancy, we can improve the health outcomes for both mom and baby.”
The LUNG FORCE Expo, held at the Marriott Indianapolis East, brings together local healthcare professionals, patients, and caregivers to learn about the latest trends, resources and research on lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (Alpha-1, asthma, and other lung diseases.
Healthcare professionals, as well as patients living with lung disease or lung cancer, and caregivers are invited to attend the event on September 14. Registration is now open. To learn more and to register, visit the LUNG FORCE Expo website or call 317-210-8550.
