The Omaha LUNG FORCE Expo will include presentations on life-saving lung cancer screening and new treatments for asthma by prominent figures in the Nebraska medical community, the American Lung Association in Nebraska announced today.

The LUNG FORCE Expo brings together healthcare professionals, patients, and caregivers to learn about the latest trends, resources and research on lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)/Alpha-1, asthma, and other lung diseases.

Dr. Rudy Lackner, Professor of Surgery, Department of Surgery for the University of Nebraska Medical Center, will speak about the current recommendations for lung cancer screening, review the data on screening, and present an assessment of options for increasing Lung Cancer screening. Dr. Bryan Krajicek, pulmonary critical care physician at CHI Health Creighton, will give a presentation on new treatments and medications for severe adult asthma.

“Lung cancer screening has the potential to save thousands of lives through early detection, but awareness about the screening is very low and it is underutilized. That is why Dr. Lackner’s presentation to healthcare professionals is vital to the health of our state,” said Erin Smith, health promotions specialist for the Lung Association. “These experts are some of the most prominent voices in lung health in the nation, and we are honored to have them speak at the Expo.”

In addition, Dr. Russell Hopp, Professor of Pediatrics for Creighton University School of Medicine, will speak about pediatric asthma, and Dr. Sumit Mukherjee Medical Director, Thoracic Clinic Department of Pulmonary/Critical Care Methodist Physicians Clinic, will speak on interventional pulmonary. The full agenda is available here.

Healthcare professionals, as well as patients living with lung disease or lung cancer, and caregivers are invited to attend the event on October 23. Registration is now open. To learn more and to register, visit the LUNG FORCE Expo website or call 402-502-4950.
