American Lung Association to Celebrate Detroit’s fifth LUNG FORCE Walk

WHAT: The LUNG FORCE Walk Detroit is a time to imagine a world free of lung disease and raise funds to support research so there can be better treatments and improved methods of early detection for lung cancer. The LUNG FORCE Walk promotes fitness and helps forge lasting connections between participants. Together, we are taking a stand on behalf of the 8,780 and men in Michigan that are diagnosed with lung cancer each year. Join the American Lung Association for their annual LUNG FORCE Walk, sponsored by CVS Health, Abbvie, Kindred Healthcare, Health Alliance Plan, Michigan Legacy Credit Union and Randy Wise Automotive Team.
The event will raise funds for lung cancer research, particularly awareness about the high rate of lung cancer in women. Consider these facts:
- Lung cancer is the #1 cancer killer of women and men in the U.S.
- Every 2½ minutes, a person in the U.S. is told she or he has lung cancer.
- The rate of new lung cancer cases in women has almost doubled over the last 40 years.
- Anyone can get lung cancer.
WHEN: Sunday, September 30. Registration opens at 7:30 AM with the event program festivities beginning at 8:30 AM and the walk beginning at 9 AM.
WHO: 5-year lung cancer survivor Debbie Pickworth will kick off the event
FOX 2 Detroit Anchor, Jessica Dupnack will be the LUNG FORCE Emcee

COST: Participation is free. However, LUNG FORCE Walk Detroit is a fundraising event and all participants are encouraged to raise donations to support research, early detection, advocacy, education and awareness for lung cancer.
ABOUT THE WALK ROUTE: The Walk with be led by more than 100 LUNG FORCE Heroes and led more than 1,000 participants and volunteers through the Detroit Zoo. Before and after the event, guests will also enjoy music, kids’ activities, lung health and advocacy information, and a chance to visit our sponsor and mission tents, and prize drawings in the main Pavilion Area.
ACTIVITIES: Team photos, dance warmup and stretching with MoreFit before the walk starts; music withed by Michigan’s Best Entertainment; exhibitor and sponsor booth; lung health information, clean air advocacy, register for the LUNG FORCE Walk; prize drawings.
