Yesterday, residents voted ‘yes’ on Initiative 427, a law that will bring $1.1 billion tax dollars back to Nebraska, sustain 10,000 jobs, and will give healthcare coverage to thousands of Nebraskans. Leah Martin, the director of advocacy for the American Lung Association in Nebraska, commented on the election results.
“As a patient advocate organization, the American Lung Association represents and supports individuals facing serious and chronic health conditions. Affordable and quality health care is essential for the health and lives of the patients we represent, including all residents of Nebraska. Passing Initiative 427 will allow our state to give more than 90,000 Nebraskans access to the quality and affordable health care they need. Increasing access to coverage through Medicaid will provide access to screenings, immunizations and other preventive services that will prevent not only disease but also reduce the cost of health care for both enrollees and the state.”
