OKLAHOMA CITY (August 8, 2017) – The American Lung Association in Oklahoma and Red Road Counseling Services, LCC, are launching a new partnership to offer Freedom From Smoking® classes to help residents in Moore and the surrounding area quit smoking. The program, offered in both English and Spanish, will begin Sept. 8 and will be held at Red Road Counseling’s office, at 201 N. Broadway Suite #213 in Moore.
"If you are a smoker, quitting smoking is one of the greatest things you can do to improve your health and quality of life," said Terri Bailey, the executive director of the American Lung Association in Oklahoma. "As soon as you quit, your body begins to repair the damage caused by smoking almost immediately. Our Freedom From Smoking program is the gold-standard for cessation programs and it will be the tool that helps you quit for good."
The American Lung Association’s Freedom From Smoking helps individuals create their own unique quit plan, as well as tips and techniques to stay successful in the long run. Freedom From Smoking can be accessed online, at a group clinic and through a self-guided workbook. Those looking to quit smoking are encouraged to use the method that works best for their learning style, schedule and unique quit smoking plan. Ranked as the most effective smoking cessation program based on an evaluation of 100 managed care organizations conducted at Fordham University Graduate School of Business, Freedom From Smoking has helped hundreds of thousands participants quit smoking.
“I smoked for over 40 years, and tried quitting several times with pills, patches and hypnosis,” said Tom Morgan, a Freedom From Smoking participant. “And then I had a heart attack, and the hospital really drilled into me to stop smoking and recommended the Freedom From Smoking program, the only thing that I hadn't tried before, and it was what finally worked. Every week, we went through the workbook and identified our smoking triggers and behaviors, and how to work through the urges. We set a quit date and talked about how we were feeling. That's what worked for me. The support, the other people. “
