Local Tucson, Arizona LUNG FORCE Hero Joined Volunteers from Across the Country to Urge Congress to Support Robust, Sustained Federal Funding Increases for Research

Marlene Harris of Tucson, Arizona joined the American Lung Association’s LUNG FORCE initiative and “LUNG FORCE Heroes” – Americans personally impacted by lung cancer – from every state at the U.S. Capitol to press Members of Congress, for continued bipartisan momentum toward defeating lung cancer.

During Advocacy Day, Marlene shared her personal experience with lung cancer. “My life changed January 18th, 2013 when I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Small cell lung cancer of the right lung. The truth is, anyone can be diagnosed with this disease. It is critical that we commit to educating everyone on the risks of lung cancer so that cases can be detected at an early stage, when the most treatment options are available. Being part of LUNG FORCE provides a supportive community and sheds light on this silent killer.” said Harris. “I hope that our efforts help put a face to lung cancer and showed Congress just how big of an impact this disease has. Advocacy Day was just one piece of a tremendous fight to defeat lung cancer, the momentum cannot come to a halt.”

Marlene encourages everyone to advocate for lung cancer research to your Members of Congress in Washington, D.C. To learn more about Marlene’s story please visit and the LUNG FORCE initiative, visit
