Healthcare Professionals Prepare for Asthma Educator Certification Exam at Asthma Educator Institute

(December 14, 2015)

The American Lung Association in Wisconsin held an Asthma Educator Institute Wednesday, December 9 and Thursday December 10 in Brookfield, WI. Nearly 30 nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, health educators and other healthcare providers attended the Institute, where they:

  • Learned how to help people with asthma better manage their disease
  • Prepared for the National Asthma Educator Certification Board exam to become a Certified Asthma Educator
  • Networked and interacted with a variety of industry vendors and community programs

Research has shown improved asthma outcomes in patients who are well-educated and informed about their disease and asthma management. Certified Asthma Educators (AE-Cs) play a vital role in providing focused education to asthma patients and their caregivers, above and beyond what the patient might otherwise receive from an uncertified practitioner.

Asthma Educator Institute was funded in part by the Partners for Asthma Action Initiative; five Institute attendees are part of the inaugural quality improvement clinic cohort.
