Resolve to Get Involved

(January 1, 2016)

It's the New Year! A time to usher in change and a fresh start. While your coworkers may be picking up CrossFit or a juice cleanse in 2016, perhaps you're inspired to do something that benefits others and the world around you.

Volunteers play a vital role at the American Lung Association. If you have a passion for healthy lungs and healthy air, see how far your talents can lead you. Plus, with the good will (karma, if you will), experience and friends you may pick up along the way – it's a resolution that keeps on giving, both to yourself and to others.

If you're ready to make a difference, sign up to volunteer with the American Lung Association. We count on volunteers—at all levels—to become involved, engaged and passionate about our mission. There are many ways to volunteer that are fulfilling and make a real impact. For example:

  • Advocacy Efforts: Share your story on our website to help raise awareness about the importance of healthy lungs and healthy air and become an e-advocate.
  • Asthma and COPD Programs: Volunteer to teach an Open Airways for Schools class, lead a Better Breathers Club gathering or one of many other local opportunities.
  • Special Events: Volunteers play an integral role at our special events and fundraisers, or participate in events yourself to raise funds for life-changing research.
  • Fundraise: If you're a stellar fundraiser, or even if you're just starting out, learn more about how you can start your own fundraising event.
  • Share Your Medical Expertise: Physicians and other medical professionals are always welcome to serve on advisory boards and expert panels. Your professional expertise is invaluable.
  • Share Your Professional Skills: If it's the right fit, your professional or business skills could be a valuable asset to a local board or leadership team.
  • Support Tobacco Education: Volunteer to facilitate a Freedom From Smoking® program or another tobacco cessation/prevention group.

Whatever your interests and skills, we have a volunteer opportunity that's right for you. See what's available and sign up to learn more.
