National Volunteer Week: April 23–29, 2017
(April 20, 2017)
In 1904, a volunteer group of doctors and concerned citizens joined together to form the first voluntary health agency in America to help fight tuberculosis. Those volunteers later formed the American Lung Association and we still count on the power and ingenuity of volunteers like those today. From advocacy efforts and health education facilitators to special event support and local leadership, each volunteer plays a crucial role in our success. We are so appreciative for the hard work of all our volunteers year-round, and during National Volunteer Week, we'd like to extend an extra special thanks for bringing our mission to life.
The lifesaving work of the American Lung Association is driven by an exceptional team of volunteers across the country including Debbie Eversole of Illinois. Although Debbie is fighting lung cancer, she coordinated a benefit that raised nearly $3,000 for lung cancer research. Another member of our volunteer team is Dave Jonasen of Wisconsin. You will rarely see Dave's face because he's often behind the volunteer photographer's camera at events such as our Fight for Air Climb, and LUNG FORCE Walk.
Are you also passionate about lung health? We'd love to have you on our team of volunteers. Learn more about some of our volunteer opportunities and be sure to take some time to thank a volunteer this week!
