The American Lung Association (ALA) has a great opportunity for a Temporary National Recruiter to join our incredible team for a 6-month assignment. While our downtown Chicago office is the preferred location, we will consider a remote arrangement for the right candidate. Working as a member of the Human Resources Team, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease, through research, education and advocacy.

In this role, you will be responsible for implementing a full-cycle recruitment strategy to attract, select, and acquire talent. You will implement staffing strategies to elevate visibility in key recruiting channels and position the ALA as an employer of choice in the nonprofit sector. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with recruitment regulatory requirements, staying on top of recruitment best practices across the non-profit sector and introducing innovative recruiting practices to the nationwide organization. You will build trusted partnerships with internal and external stakeholders and support the mission of the ALA.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and coordinate recruitment processes to maximize flow of qualified applicants and staff the talent needs of the ALA in a timely manner.
  • Use traditional and innovative sourcing techniques to attract the best applicants, including online job boards, social media, social networking, career fairs, community network events, and building partnerships with educational institutions.
  • Consult with Human Resources Team and Hiring Manager to review and refine selection strategies, including screening, assessment and interviewing techniques.
  • Develop compelling job postings and materials that are reflective of the organization’s requirements and brand.
  • Screen resumes, conduct preliminary candidate phone screen interviews and recommend applicants to manager for further review.
  • In partnership with HR team, complete employment reference checks.
  • Extend verbal offers of employment and partner with HR team and manager to maintain strong candidate relationships through acceptance or closure.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal/state laws and regulations throughout the recruitment process.
  • Maintain accurate recruitment records and produce reports to demonstrate recruiting effectiveness.
  • Complete special talent acquisition projects as assigned by the Chief Human Resources Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree, with degree in HR Management, Business Administration, Human Services or related area preferred.
  • Minimum of three years’ full-cycle recruitment experience required, with preference for nonprofit recruitment experience and/or successful track record of staffing development, advocacy, and programming roles from entry to senior level.
  • Proven candidate sourcing, including both active and passive sourcing, and hands-on experience doing high volume recruiting using a variety of sourcing techniques including digital/internet resources.
  • HRIS and ATS experience required.
  • Must understand HR principles and legal requirements.
  • Knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Access.
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to collaborate with others to achieve desired results. Must have demonstrated success building strong relationships with co-workers and management staff.
  • Ability to work well under pressure of deadlines with high degree of accuracy.
