National Director, Donor Relations (CHI #1920-69)
The American Lung Association has a great opportunity for a National Director, Donor Relations to join our incredible team in the National Office. Working as a member of the Development Team, you will join an outstanding group of professionals dedicated to our mission: to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease, through research, education and advocacy.
In this role, you will be responsible for facilitating growth and relationship development of individual donors in support of ALA nationwide revenue and mission goals. The successful candidate will meet or exceed annual revenue goals by advancing relationships with current donors and identifying, cultivating and soliciting new prospects through major gifts.
- Achieve or exceed annual individual giving revenue goals.
- Create and manage a portfolio of 150 qualified prospects capable of making five- and six-figure contributions and above.
- Create individual goals and a foundational communication and marketing plan for each person in the portfolio. Execute each plan on a timely basis to ensure that donors are retained and upgraded.
- Develop and maintain an ambitious schedule of face-to-face cultivation/solicitation/stewardship meetings.
- Work with mission and marketing staff to secure appropriate project information, including budgets, and create proposals that will be used to compel prospects to make meaningful gifts.
- Track all activity in the CRM database and use this information to create monthly reports for management.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Non-Profit Management, Marketing, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- Seven or more years fundraising experience with a proven track record of personally soliciting and closing gifts of 5 to 6 figures.
- Goal oriented, independent, focused self-starter.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), including strong presentation and negotiation skills.
- Exceptional listener with ability to understand needs and motivations of others, find common ground and build trust with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to represent mission and nonprofit programs in detail with passion and knowledge.
- Detail-oriented with strong time management and organizational skills. Excellent research and prospecting skills.
- Ability to manage multifaceted projects and a capacity to perform well independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment with minimum direct supervision.

- Proven ability to cultivate and steward relationships across a diverse population.
- Ability to travel up to 40% or as required, with flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends with some overnights required. Must have a valid Driver’s license.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and CRM software.
