State of Tobacco Control 2018

TOBACCO REPORT FINDS CALIFORNIA EARNS BEST GRADES IN THE NATION, BUT MORE WORK NEEDED TO PROTECT COMMUNITIES

The "State of Tobacco Control" 2018 report grades all fifty states and the federal government on four key tobacco control policies: tobacco control and prevention spending, smokefree air, tobacco taxes, and cessation coverage. In conjunction with the national report, the "State of Tobacco Control" 2018 - California Local Grades report issues grades for all 482 cities and 58 counties in California on policies for smokefree outdoor air, smokefree housing, and reducing sales of tobacco products. This year's report shows that California has the best grades in the nation thanks to last year’s passage of Proposition 56, the tobacco tax increase. However, much still needs to be done to protect citizens from the deadly effects of tobacco use. The Lung Association and its partners continue to call for immediate action to reduce smoking rates, protect all Americans from secondhand smoke and ultimately eliminate the death and disease caused by tobacco use.
