Event Information

Each year, too many lives are lost to lung disease and this is your chance to climb, raise money and make an impact in their honor. By joining the Seattle 2012 Fight for Air Climb, you are making the commitment to fight lung disease so everyone can breathe easier- including you!

Event Overview

“What is the Fight For Air Climb?”

On October 28, 2012, families, individuals and teams will join together in the Seattle Fight for Air stair climb at the Two Union Square building in downtown Seattle to raise awareness for the millions of Americans who suffer from lung disease. Participants - working together to fundraise for the cause.

Union Square SeattleThe Fight For Air Climb is a stair climb event. Or as some like to call it a “vertical foot race”.  This is a timed event that can be done by the serious or “elite” athlete as well as friends,  family and coworkers. The Seattle Fight for Air Climb is a single climb, but at 51 floors, the Two Union Square tower is tall enough to be challenging to the competitive racer as well as the weekend warrior!

Stairclimb + Scare Climb

This year, in honor of Halloween, we have added a scary new element – a “Scare” Climb!  If you want to bring the kids for some Scary Fun and Fitness, join us for the Scare Climb as well!  Kids will have a blast while learning how to have healthy lungs while climbing flights of stairs at Seattle's Two Union Square tower. There will be Halloween-themed treats, goodie bags, costume contests, and scary facts about tobacco! (Children must be accompanied by an adult – maximum 2 children per adult.)

If you want to bring the kids for the Scare Climb only (8 floors only), it is $10 for a parent and up to two children (Children must be accompanied by an adult – maximum 2 children per adult) and no fundraising required.   Kids are encouraged to wear costumes, but in the interest of safety, they must meet the following guidelines:

  • No masks
  • Both hands must be free (no hand props)
  • Costumes must not impede safe stair climbing, i.e. tails or clothing that drags behind, or floor length dresses/capes, etc.
  • No revealing, offensive or graphic costumes
  • Apropriate athletic shoes must be worn

Stairclimb Only

We look forward to having you join us for the 2012 Stair Climb!  In honor of Halloween, participants in the regular Stairclimb are welcome to dress in costume, with the following restrictions:

  • No masks
  • Both hands must be free (no hand props)
  • Costumes must not impede safe stair climbing, i.e. tails or clothing that drags behind, or floor length dresses/capes, etc.
  • Appropriate athletic shoes must be worn
  • No revealing, offensive or graphic costumes

There are three categories to choose from:

Friends and Family:

Elite: If you feel you would like to participate competitively this is the category to choose. Every participant will be given a timing chip to attach to their shoe. Elite athletes will be going in the first wave of the event. With start times beginning at 9:00am.

First Responder: If you are firefighter you could select this category. This is for Firefighters that will participate in full gear. If you enter as a first responder you will be given specific start time toward the end of the day. If you are a firefighter team that would like to go without gear you should create a team or sign up individually as a “friends and family” or “elite” participant.

How the start works:

All team members will be grouped together with a similar start time (to be given the week of the race). We will stage individual starts in approximately 12 second increments. Elite Athletes are scheduled to start the event prior to friends and family as they will be more likely to pass fellow participants. Also, First Responders will go last to avoid passing in full gear.

This is a FUNdraiser with a registration fee (see below for more details). The fundraising amount and registration fee are for individuals not teams. So, each person on your team would be responsible for reaching their own fundraising goal. Our goal is minimal but you can set your personal goal at any dollar amount you would like. The sky is the limit!

Please join the thousands of individuals across the nation who believe in the cause and by climbing for their communities.
