Firefighter Challenge
Join us in the fight for healthy lungs and clean air
Compete in the Firefighter Challenge! Your participation supports research, advocacy and education to study the effects of asthma, lung cancer and other lung diseases that disproportionately affect firefighters.
Fees
A $25 (non-transferable and non-refundable) registration fee is required for each participant, and an additional $250 minimum fundraising requirement towards your Team’s overall goal. The money raised will support the American Lung Association in our mission to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.
Rules & Regulations
In the best interest of competition and to make this event as fair as possible, the following guidelines have been established. In order to qualify, the following guidelines must be adhered to:
TEAM: You must have 5 members to qualify for the Fastest Fire Company Team award and must be from the same department
GEAR: Traditionally, participating Firefighters climb in their full gear. Friends of Firefighters has suggested that Firefighters not climb in full gear but wear the following:
• FDNY or Company Shirt
• Helmets are acceptable
• Gloves are optional. They do not directly affect the outcome of the race.
TOOLS: WILL NOT BE ALLOWED (i.e., axe, halligan, pike pole, etc.)
START TIMES: Start times for Fire Company teams will be assigned based on the order that the team was created. Team members will be given consecutive start times. If a team needs to be divided up and not start one right after the other, please contact the Event Manager by Wednesday, November 17th. Start times for Firefighters who are climbing as individuals and not with a team will be assigned based on order of registration.
The staff of the American Lung Association is always here to help you with your fundraising efforts. We will remain in contact with you during the weeks prior to the Climb and are available to come to your Fire House to meet with your Company. We can also put you in contact with other Fire Companies who have previously participated in the American Lung Association’s Fight For Air Climb.
PLEASE NOTE: These categories are the mandatory requirements to qualify for the Fastest Individual Firefighter and the Fastest Fire Company Team awards ONLY. It is the intent of these guidelines to ensure fairness within the competition. These guidelines will be monitored on an honor system. If a complaint is filed with the Event Manager, it will be investigated. If it is deemed that an infraction has occurred, that competitor's time will be removed from the overall individual and team's qualifying time.
Check out how they did it at Race Up Boston Place 2010. With your help, New York can best Boston in participation and money raised!
