What is the Fight for Air Climb?

The Fight for Air Climb is a stairclimb fitness and fundraising event for the American Lung Association, with events taking place all over the U.S. They usually take place in prominent skyscrapers, stadiums or arenas and involve climbing multiple steps. Sometimes called a "vertical road race", teams and individual participants can use the event as a fitness target, as a race, with you challenging yourself or you racing against other people, or as a great way to be active and meet new friends.   

How do my donations help?

With the generous support of people like you, the American Lung Association in New York saves lives by fighting for healthy lungs and clean air.  Eighty-one cents of every dollar raised by our organization goes directly to education, research and advocacy, including asthma management and smoking cessation programs; research that strives to find ways to reverse, treat, prevent and find cures for all lung disease and; advocacy for stronger clean air standards, lower power plant emissions, and cleaner vehicles and fuels. Learn more about our mission.

What are my participation options?

There are several ways to participate in the Fight for Air Climb. You can sign up as an Individual, Join a Team or Start a Team(you need 3 people, including the Team Captain to start a team. If you are a firefighter, you can participate in our Firefighter Challenge.  

Can My Child Participate?

We encourage families to participate as teams, including children. However, to ensure the safety of all of our participants, the minimum age requirement is 12. The Fight for Air Climb is a fundraising event; all of our participants, regardless of age, are required to meet the $100 fundraising minimum. Keep in mind that with a little help from an adult, children have the potential to be big fundraisers.  

How many people do I need to start a team? 

You need 3 people, including the Team Captain to start a team. Get started now. 

What does it mean to be a team captain?

Team Captains are team leaders and provide motivation and encouragement to their team. They are responsible for creating and recruiting for their team and for setting the overall team fundraising goal. Some team captains organize gatherings before or after the event for their team members. 

I've registered for the Stair Climb last year, but I've forgotten my username and password. How do I get it sent to me?

How do I setup my personalized web page?

When you finish registering you can go to the “Participant Center”. You can add pictures or text to your individual page.  Team captains can add pictures and text to the team page. You can also go back to the Participant Center on another time by logging on the climb website.If you want to setup your web page after your registration, you can login using your user name and password. Then, click on "Participant Center" on the left side menu. Next, click on the "Personal Page" icon, and you can edit your web page.

Can I change my web page after I set it up? Can I change my fundraising goal? 

Yes by the same process. Login to the website, click on the "Participant Center" and click on the "Personal Page" icon. To change your fundraising goal, enter the goal in the "New Goal" box and click "Update Goal".   

I am a Team Captain. How can I setup or make changes to my Team's web page?

When you go to your Participant Center, you will see a blue box that says "My Team". If you click on the link that says "Update Team Information", you will see a page that allows you to change your team name or fundraising goal. You can add custom text to your team page or add a photo.    

How do I send emails to friends and family asking for support?

Go to the Participant Center. Click on the “Email” icon which is on the top row of icons. You are given a choice of potential email messages to send out. Select a message. You can enter in email addresses for your message here, or add them from your address book. You can import names into your address book by clicking on the “Address Book” icon and importing your contact list from Outlook, Gmail, AOL, or Yahoo .

How do I make a donation to an individual climber or a team?

Under the Donate menu, click on Donate to a Team or Sponsor a Climberand follow the online instructions.

How do I make a donation directly to the American Lung Association in New York (not to a climber or a team)?

Click on Donate to the Event and follow the online instructions. 

Are donations tax deductible?

Yes, all donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. A cleared check or online credit card transaction serves as a receipt.

What do I bring with me on the day of the event?

Please bring any fundraising dollars you have collected and not yet turned in.  Please bring a roster of your team members if you are the captain as well as how much each person raised if not already online.
