Event Information

Each year, too many lives are lost to lung disease.  This is your chance to climb, raise money and make an impact in their honor.  By joining the Peak the Plaza/Fight For Air Climb, you are making the commitment to fight lung disease so everyone can breathe easier – including you!

Families, individuals and teams join together to climb to raise money and awareness for the 35 million Americans who live with chronic lung disease.  In New Mexico, 260,000 people – 25% of the state’s population – have chronic lung disease such as asthma, COPD and lung cancer

About the Climb - Event Overview

The Peak the Plaza/Fight For Air Climb gives you the opportunity to say you’ve climbed the tallest building in the state – the Albuquerque Plaza in downtown Albuquerque!

It’s more than just the same old 5K.  Climbers use this event, sometimes called a “vertical road race”, as a fitness target, a competitive race, an effort to support clean air and healthy lungs.

Usually, the building’s stairwell is closed to the public, but we’ll unchain the doors and let you climb all the way to the 19th floor where you will receive your medal, pose for photos and enjoy refreshments and fun. But no worries – getting down is as easy as one sweet elevator ride.  All climbers are timed using state-of-the-art chip timing technology to ensure accurate results, but you don’t need to be a star athlete to participate.  The average climb time is under 15 minutes, and all climbers and abilities over the age of 14 are welcome.

The Peak the Plaza/Fight For Air Climb raises funds for lung health issues that are more critical now than ever before.  Lung disease is the third leading cause of death in the United States.  While the death rates from cancer and heart disease are decreasing, deaths from lung disease are increasing at an alarming rate.
