With the generous support of people like you, the American Lung Association in Minnesota saves lives by fighting for healthy lungs and healthy air. Today, our fight is more important than ever. Eighty-one cents of every dollar raised by our organization goes directly to education, research and advocacy.
Fight for Air Climbs are unique fundraising events for the American Lung Association. They usually happen in prominent skyscrapers, stadiums or arenas and involve climbing multiple steps. Sometimes called a "vertical road race", teams and individual participants can use the event as a fitness target, as a race, with you challenging yourself or you racing against other people, or as a great way to be active and meet new friends. We know a lot about lung disease, but there is so much we don't know. Your participation will raise the funds necessary to provide life saving education, research and advocacy so we can beat lung disease and soon find a cure.
The Accenture Tower has 30 floors, 660 steps. The average Climb is under 15 minutes.
Accenture Tower is located at 333 South Seventh Street, Minneapolis, MN
Parking is available in the Accenture Tower in the Metropolitan Centre Parking Ramp for $3 per car. Upon enter the ramp, please pull up slowly and the door will open. You will be asked to pay $3 when you enter. Credit card, cash or check will be accepted. The parking ramp opens at 5:00 am. There are also limited meter spots around the Accenture Tower.
Packet pick-up is on the day of event at registration. At registration, you will be asked to turn in your remaining fundraising dollars and will receive your timing chip, bib number and technical t-shirt.
The Fight for Air Stair Climb has three different start times. The Ultimate Climb begins at 7:00 am. The Climb begins at 8:00 am and the Firefighter begins at 10:00 am. Wave assignments and start times will be given out the week of the event and will be posted online as well as communicated via email. Please plan to arrive one hour before your designated Wave start time to allow for registration and warm-up.
You will receive a timing chip and a tie-wrap to attach the timing chip to your shoe/body at registration. Timing chips need to be placed on your shoe or near your ankle to ensure that the chip can be read from the floor mat. All Climbers will receive one chip at registration and the chip will be removed upon completion on the 30th Floor. Firefighter chips need to be attached as low to the floor as possible. Staff and volunteers will be available to ensure proper chip placement and chip removal.
To compete in the Firefighter Team Challenge or as an Individual Firefighter, firefighters must wear their full gear, excluding the their ax. The Firefighter Challenge begins at 10:00 am. Click here for more details regarding the Firefighter Challenge!
Ultimate Climbers may climb the Accenture Tower as many times as they are able to in 60 minutes. The Ultimate Climbers climb up the stairs and ride down elevators to the 1st floor and then ride an escalator down to the entrance of the stairwell. The Ultimate Climb is from 7:00 am - 8:00 am.
Packet Being a team captain is easy. Captains gather together a few friends or family members and encourage them to participate in the event together. Each team captain helps to coordinate the online registration of these friends as well as setting a goal for the team overall. Team Captains should encourage their participants to personalize their fundraising pages, send e-mails to other friends and family, hit their overall goals, show up to the event and have a great time. Some team captains organize gatherings before or after the climb for their team members, but this is not required. Sometimes the team captain serves as a representative at the annual event kickoff luncheon. In short, we need help to rally the troops and the best people for the job are always our team captains.
Please bring any fundraising dollars you have collected and not yet turned in. Please bring a roster of your team members if you are the captain as well as how much each person raised if not already online. You will want to dress appropriately for the event (workout clothes, running shoes, etc.) Gear check will be available,but please do not bring items of value, as the American Lung Association is not responsible for lost or stolen items. You may wish to bring a water bottle, but water stops are provided at registration, throughout the Climb on floors 4, 11, 18, 23 and 30. Participants are allowed to use MP3 players. Most importantly, please bring a positive attitude and lots of energy!
