Join the hundreds of individuals and teams who will climb their way to the top of the Hilton for a great cause, lung health. This is more than your same old 5K. This event is a vertical race to climb 32 floors of Springfield's tallest building. Whether climbing for a winning time or simply to cross the finish line, this event is a great way to challenge yourself physically. We guarantee that all finishers will have a newfound respect for healthy lungs!
Please remember, Athletic Training is Prohibited in the Stairwells of the Hilton Springfield.

32 Floor Climb- Climb 32 floors to the top of the Hilton Springfield.
Ultimate Climb -CLOSED - Climb 32 floors to the top of the Hilton Springfield as many times as you are able in one hour. Climbs are intended to be consecutive. Elevator time will not be recorded in your time. Your first individual climb will be eligible for awards and recognition in the 32 Floor Climb.
Due to space constraints, the Ultimate Climb is limited to 50 participants. This option is now CLOSED.
Corporate Team Challenge-Teams of four or more will compare for the title of fastest Corporate Team. Fuel the fun and competition in your workplace by creating multiple teams!
Fire Department Full Gear Challenge- Teams of four or more firefighters will compete for the title of fastest Fire Department. Firefighters will climb in full gear.
Fire Department Competitive Challenge- Team of four or more firefighters will compete for the title of fastest Competitive Fire Department. Firefighters will climb in gym gear. The winning team's time will compared to that of the winning Police Department Team and will determine the winner of the Guns vs. Hoses Challenge.
Police Department Challenge-Teams of four or more policemen and women will compete for the title of the fastest Police Department. Police will climb in gym gear. The winning team's time will be compared to that of the winning Fire Department Competitive Team and will determine the winner of the Guns vs. Hoses Challenge.
Family and Friends- Invite your family and friends to step up to the challenge with you and build a team of four or more people!
Registration and Fundraising
32 Floor Climb- Registration Fee: $15 Early Bird/ $25 after January 8, 2013 and Minimum Fundraising Requirement : $100
Ultimate Climb- Registration Fee: $40 Early Bird/ $50 after January 8, 2013 and Minimum Fundraising Requirement : $100
Each Climber is responsible for his/her own individual Registration Fee and Fundraising Minimum.
Fee and Donation Details
The Registration Fee is due at the time of registration and is non-refundable. Climbers have until the event day to meet their Minimum Fundraising of $100. Climbers who have not met their fundraising requirement will need to pay the outstanding amount in order to participate in the climb. Pledges made to the American Lung Association on behalf of climbers who cancel or do not participate in the climb are non-refundable.
Collecting Pledges and Fundraising
Our online fundraising tools make fundraising quick and simple. You can personalize your webpage with a photo and text about what motivates you to join the "Fight for Air". Send emails to friends and family or link to your Facebook page asking for support and to receive online credit card pledges. Any offline donations (checks and cash) that are collected can be mailed to:

Event Day Information
Start Times: Participants will receive their start times prior to the event via email. Start times will also be posted online 48 hours prior to the event in the Schedule of Events page. Participants should arrive 30 minutes prior to their start time. Start times will be assigned in waves. Teams will be assigned the same wave: Climbers will climb individually on 10-15 second intervals in their wave time.
Packet Pick-up: Packet Pick-up will be available on Friday, February 15, 2013 at the Hilton Springfield from 3:00 - 8: 00 p.m. You are welcome to bring your contributions to Packet Pick-up. Packets can only be distributed if $100 minimum fundraising requirement has been met.
Timing Chips: Timing Chips will be picked up before climbing on event day. All participants will receive a tech t-shirt, goody bag and bib number.
Gear Check: Gear Check will be available to all participants on the day of the event. Please leave any valuable items at home, as we cannot be responsible for for any lost or stolen items at the event.
Starting Line: The Starting Line is located at the North stairwell on the Concourse Level of the Hilton Springfield. Participants will be directed to go down the South stairwell to the Concourse level a few minutes prior to their start time.
Headphones: You may wear headphones, but be conscious of other climbers and volunteers while in the stairwells. Please make sure your radio, MP3 or CD player is worn with a proper exercise carrier.
Passing: Climbers are asked to pass on the right and to notify other climbers when passing. Please say “PASS” or “PASSING”.
Water Stations: Water Stations will be located in the stairwells and also as the top. Water bottles are not allowed in the stairwells as it is a safety hazard.
Finish Line: The Finish Line is at the 29th floor of the Hilton Springfield. Upon finishing, please see a Volunteer to have your timing chip removed.
For the safety of our Climbers, no one will be allowed to view the Climbers at the finish line on the 29th floor. All friends and family members will need to remain in the Mezzanine area.

Athletic Training Prohibited in Stairwells at the Springfield Hilton. A Boot camp will be offered for training purposes.
FitClub Guest Membership
To provide additional training opportunities, FitClub has given free guest memberships to all registered participants. The guest membership can be used from now until Climb Day, February 16, 2013. Upon completing registration, a pass will be sent to you in your welcome packet. Please take this pass to any FitClub location and they will assist you in filling out the necessary paperwork.
The American Lung Association and FitClub, exclusive sponsor of the 2013 “Fight For Air Climb” BootCamp, are pairing up with expert stair climbers, Marty Morris, John Osborn, and Justin Stewart to host 6 training events.
Location: All BootCamps, with the exception of the Practice Climb, will be held at FitClub South located at 3631 South Sixth Street, Springfield, IL.

Individual Awards: Awards will be given to both the Male and Female Ultimate Climbers as well as Over-all winners. Awards will be given to the top three finishers for men and women in each age category. All participants will be divided into the following age groups: 12 and under, 13-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+
Team Awards: Groups of four or more can form a team and compete against other climb teams. Your team may consist of men and/or women in any age category. The four fastest times on your team will be combines to determine the winners. Each team member's individual time will could toward the individual age categories. The fastest team in each category will be awarded.
Safety and Climber Etiquette
To ensure the safety of all climbers and allow the best experience, please pass slower climbers on the wall without the rail, and let them know you are coming from behind to pass. You should always climb on the rail side of the stairwell. Emergency teams will be located at the bottom and top in case you need assistance. Volunteers will also be available at the water stations to notify if you need help.
