Event Information

The Fight For Air Climb takes place on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the Oakbrook Terrace Tower in Oakbrook Terrace, IL. Participants, individuals or teams, climb 680 stairs to fight lung disease. All climbers are timed using state-of-the-art chip timing technology to ensure accurate results, but you don't need to be a star athlete to participate.

Whether climbing for a winning time or simply to cross the finish line, this event is a great way to challenge yourself physically. We guarantee that all finishers will have a newfound respect for healthy lungs!

Stairclimb Options
31 Floor Climb- Climb 31 floors to the top of the Oakbrook Terrace Tower

Extreme Climb- Climb the tower twice and combine your times. Climbs are intended to be consecutive. Elevator time will be removed from timing results.

Ultimate Climb- Climb the tower three times and combine your times. Climbs are intended to be consecutive. Elevator time will be removed from timing results.

Power Hour- Be one of the select 31 Climbers to have the opportunity to climb Oakbrook Terrace Tower as many times as you can in an hour! Climbs are intended to be consecutive. Elevator time will be removed from your time. Your fastest individual climb time will be eligible for individual awards. Read more information about POWER HOUR and event day rules. 

Team Categories
Corporate Team Challenge- Teams or five or more will compete for the title of fastest corporate team. The top three Corporate Teams will be awarded. Fuel the fun and the competition in your work place by creating multiple teams.

Fire Department Challenge- Teams of five or more firefighters will compete for the title of the fastest Fire Department. Firefighters climb in full gear (mask, boots, tank, etc.) excluding their ax. Firefighters can also climb the Individual Firefighter Challenge for the title of the Fastest Firefighter.

Police Department Challenge- Teams of five or more police will compete for the title of the fastest Police Department.

Health Club Challenge- Build a team of five or more health club employees and members and compete against other health clubs.

Family and Friends- Teams of four or more family/friend members compete. Fuel the fun, competition and healthy lifestyle while making great memories!

Registration and Fundraising
Individual Climbers
31 Floor Climb- Registration Fee: $15 Early Bird / $25 after January 7, 2012; Minimum Fundraising/Donation: $100

Ultimate Climb- Registration Fee: $15 Early Bird / $40 after January 7, 2012; Minimum Fundraising/Donation: $100

Extreme Climb- Registration Fee: $15 Early Bird / $25 after January 7, 2012; Minimum Fundraising/Donation: $100

Power Hour Climb - limited availability. Registration fee: $40 / $50 after January 7, 2012; Minimum Fundraising/Donation: $100

Teams
Each Climber is responsible for his/her own individual Registration Fee and Fundraising Minimum

Fee and Donation Details
The Registration Fee is due at the time of registration and is non-refundable . Climbers have until event day to meet their Minimum Fundraising of $100. Climbers who have not met their fundraising requirement on event day will need to pay the outstanding amount in order to participate in the climb. Pledges made to the American Lung Association on behalf of climbers who cancel or do not participate in the Climb are non-refundable.

Collecting Pledges and Fundraising
Our online fundraising tools make fundraising quick and simple. You can personalize your webpage with a photo and text about what motivates you to join the "Fight for Air". Send emails to friends and family or link to your Facebook page asking for support and to receive online credit card pledges. Any offline donations (cash and checks) that are collected can be mailed to:

Keep track of your donors using the Climb Pledge Form. Make sure to send this in with your checks you collect, completely filled out.

Event Day Information
Start Times: Participants will receive an email prior to the event announcing start times have been posted, at least 48 hours prior to the event. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the first climbers beginning at 8:00 a.m. We ask that participants arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the designated start time to allow for check-in, gear check, etc.  Starting times will be assigned in waves and teams will be assigned the same wave. Climbers will climb individually on 15 second intervals in their wave time.

Timing Chips: Will be distributed on event day after participants check-in

Gear Check: Gear check will be available to all participants on the day of the event. Please leave any valuable items at home, as we cannot be responsible for lost or stolen items at the event.

Water Stations:
Water Stations will be located in the stairwells and also at the top. Water bottles are not allowed in the stairwells as it is a safety hazard.

Packet Pick-Up: Skip the lines on event day and join us at Packet Pick-Up at the Oakbrook Terrace Tower. Oakbrook Terrace Tower, 1 Tower Lane, Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181, Saturday, February 11, 2012 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Please note that all fundraising must be raised and turned in by pick up. Each individual must pick up his/her own packet. A photo ID is required.
If you cannot come to packet pick-up, all packets can be obtained on event day.
All participants will receive a technical tee, goody bag and bib. You will receive your timing chip before you climb on event day.

Beat Your Time
Try to Beat Your Time from the 2010 or 2011 Climb at Oakbrook Terrace Tower this year. 2010 and 2011 finish times will be posted at the event. Once you complete the 2012 Climb, you can find out if you beat your time. If you did, you will receive an extra ribbon for your medal for improving your time!

Climb Boot Camp
Boot Camp is back! Whether you're just starting a fitness plan or tackling the tower to set a new personal record, Fight for Air Climb Boot Camp will help you reach your goals. Training will include a variety of activities including practice climbs in the Oakbrook Terrace Tower stairwells after each session. To qualify for Boot Camp, you must be registered for the Climb and have individually raised a set fundraising minimum by each session date.
 
Session Dates: Saturday mornings, 8:00am-9:00am. Please arrive by 7:45 am to check in. Please be dressed and ready to climb.
January 14, January 21 and February 4.

Session Location: One Tower Lane, Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181. Will meet in the Tower lobby.

Fundraising Requirements: (not including registration fees) You must have raised a total of $150 by session one; $250 by session two; $350 by session three. Boot camp participants will receive a Boot Camp Climber in Training shirt.

Ticket to Climb
Raise more than $1,000 and be eligible to climb for FREE at any of the other Upper Midwest Region stairclimb events in 2012. No registration fee or additional fundraising required.

Awards
Individual Awards: Awards will be given to the top three finishers for men and women in each category. All participants will be divided into the following age groups:
12 and under; 13-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+

Team Awards: Groups of five or more can form a team and compete against other climb teams. Your team may consist of men and/or women in any age category. The five fastest times on your team will be combined to determine the winners. Each team member's individual time will count toward individual age categories. The three fastest teams in each category will be awarded.

Individual Firefighter Challenge: The top 3 fastest firefighters, whether climbing with their department or as an individual, will be awarded.

Fire Department Traveling Trophy: The fastest Fire Department Team will win the Traveling Trophy which they will have to keep on display for 1 year. Departments must wear full gear in Fire Department Challenge to qualify. Teams must have at least 5 members.

Police Department Traveling Trophy: The fastest Police Department Team will win the Traveling Trophy which they will have to keep on display for 1 year. Teams must have at least 5 members.

2011 Fastest Firefighter Team, North Riverside Local 2714. Team Time = 5 minutes, 45 seconds.

2011 Fastest Police Team, Addison Police Department. Team Time = 4 minutes, 34 seconds.

Safety and Climber Etiquette
To ensure the safety of all climbers and allow for the best experience, please pass slower climbers on the wall without the rail, and let them know you are coming from behind to pass. You should always climb on the rail side of the stairwell. Emergency teams will be located at the bottom and top in case you need assistance. Volunteer will be available at the water stations to notify them if you need help.
