Event Information

Each year, too many lives are lost to lung disease and this is your chance to climb, raise money and make an impact in their honor. By joining the Fight for Air Climb, you are making the commitment to fight lung disease so everyone can breathe easier- including you!

Event Overview

What is the Fight For Air Climb?

US Bank Plaza 2The Fight For Air Climb is a stair climb event. Or as some like to call it a “vertical foot race”.  This is a timed event that can be done by the serious or “elite” athlete as well as friends,  family and coworkers.

The Boise Fight For Air Climb will be held at the US Bank Plaza downtown Boise.  Participants will be able to climb up to 38 flights in the US Bank Plaza. The event will be starting at 8:00 am on April 28, 2012.

There are three categories to choose from.

Elite: If you're a competitive stairclimber or you are an athlete who likes to compete, this is your category. All participants will be given a timing chip to attach to their shoe. Elite category climbers will start in the first wave of the event, beginning at 9AM.

First Responder: if you are a firefighter, police officer or an EMT you could select this category. This is for Firefighters & Police that will participate in full gear. If you enter as a first responder you will be given specific start time toward the end of the day. If you are a firefighter team that would like to go without gear you would create a team or sign up individually as a “friends and family” or “elite” participant.

Friends and Family: this group will make up the majority of our participants.  This is for those who want to have fun and enjoy their climb for a good cause.

How does the start work?

All team members will be grouped together with a similar start time (to be announced the week of the event). We will stagger individual starts in 12 second increments. Elite Athletes are scheduled to start the event prior to friends and family as they will be more likely to pass fellow participants. Also, First Responders will go last to avoid passing in full gear.

How many floors are there to climb?

The basic Climb goes from the 2nd to the 20th floor (there is no 13th floor) in both stairwells - a total of 36 floors. You can choose one circuit for 36 floors, twice for 72 floors, three times for 108 floors, or four times for a total of 144 floors!

Awards Given:

  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd place for males and for females in each of the four circuit options. Team speed prizes will be awarded to the teams whose members have the fastest speeds for the basic 36-floor circuit (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place).
  • We will also announce the names of the fastest male and female in each of the age categories for each of the four circuit options. There are nine age categories: 9 and below, 10 - 14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and above.

This is a FUNdraiser with a registration fee (see below for more details). The fundraising amount and registration fee are for individuals not teams. So, each person on your team would be responsible for reaching their own fundraising goal. Our goal is minimal but you can set your personal goal at any dollar amount you would like. The sky is the limit!

  • Please note: if you register on or after April 18, we cannot guarantee that we will have an event t-shirt available for you on the day of the event. If you fulfill your fundraising minimum and there is no shirt available for you, we will order a shirt for you and get it to you following the event.
