With the generous support of people like you, the American Lung Association in Iowa saves lives by fighting for healthy lungs and healthy air. Today, our fight is more important than ever. Eighty-eight cents of every dollar raised by our organization goes directly to education, research and advocacy. Check us out at www.lungia.org or www.lung.org
The Fight for Air Walk is a 1 or 3.1 mile walk (5K) at Principal Park (i-Cubs Ballpark) in Des Moines. Attracting people of all ages, the Fight for Air Walk gives you the power to improve the air we breathe. Participate as an individual or create a team of friends, family and co-workers. Walk the entire course or just some of it- it's up to you. However you choose to participate, you can be proud you have chosen to Fight for Air! We are a rain-or-shine event.
- 8:00 AM - Registration Opens
- 9:00 AM - Walk Begins
We ask that participants arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your walk time. This gives you time to check in/turn in donations, visit our vendors and line up to walk!
WHERE SHOULD I PARK?
The walk will begin at Principal Park at 9 AM. Please plan to park near gate C in the ballpark parking lot. Handicap parking is readily available.
Where is the start line?
The start line will be near Gate D.
WHAT IS A MISSION MILE MARKER?
A Mission Mile Marker is a sign that will be placed on the Fight for Air Walk route in honor or in memory of a loved one. They are sold for $10 each or three for $25. They are not only a great way to remember those who have or are fighting a lung disease, but they also are a great way to reach your fundraising minimum.
Being a team captain is easy and fun!
Captains gather together a few friends, co-workers and/or family members and encourage them to participate in the event together. Each team captain helps to coordinate the online registration for their team as well as setting a fundraising team goal.
Team Captains should encourage their participants to personalize their fundraising pages, send e-mails to other friends and family, reach their overall goals, show up to the event and have a great time. Some team captains organize gatherings before or after the walk for their team members, but this is not required.
Does your company want to become more involved? Please contact us to schedule a kick off on-site at your business! Events@LungIA.org or 515-309-9507.
There are two options. Participants can choose to walk a 1-mile or a 3.1 mile (5K) walk.
- Any fundraising dollars you have collected and not yet turned in.
- A roster of your team members if you are the captain as well as how much each person raised if not already online.
- Bring a positive attitude and lots of energy!
Because of the extensive planning and number of volunteers needed for an event of this magnitude, this event will not be postponed due to weather conditions. In the event of a weather related emergency, please check the event homepage for up to the minute instructions on what to do. We are a rain or shine event!
