The FIRST TIME
you attempt to use your social networking account on this site, you will have to:
1. Log into your social networking site.
2. Give permission for the American Lung Association (ALA) to access your social networking profile.
3. Validate your social network profile by either LINKING it to a new or existing LungUSA.org online account.
Existing Accounts
If you already have a LungUSA.org website account or if you have ALREADY REGISTERED FOR THIS EVENT: During the social networking validation step, select the option labeled “Have an account already? Log in here”.
New Accounts
If you DON’T already have a LungUSA.org website account: During the social networking validation step, verify the information that was obtained from your social networking site and click “Register”.

4 Ways to Participate

Start a Team
Choose this if you would like to start your own team for your friends, family, or company. You will have the opportunity to set up your team, create a team page, and also have a personal fundraising page.
Join a Team
Choose this if you want to join a team that has already been set up by your team captain. You will be able to see how your fundraising supports your team and you will also be able to have a personal fundraising page.
Join as an Individual
Choose this if you are not starting or joining a team and would prefer to participate as an individual. You will be able to set up a personal fundraising page to share with your friends to support your fundraising efforts.
Volunteer
If you prefer not to participate but would rather volunteer for the event, click here. You will still be able to join a team and set up a personal fundraising page if you wish to raise money for the event.

3 Ways to Donate

Sponsor a Walker
Choose this if you would like to donate to a specific individual. Your donation will increase the fundraising total for the specific individual. If that individual is on a team, it will also increase the team's fundraising total. You will be able to search for a specific participant to which to donate.
Donate to a Team
Choose this if you would like donate to a team and not a specific participant. Your donation will increase the team fundraising total but not a specific individual on the team. You will be able to search for a specific team to which to donate.
Donate to the Event
Choose this if you would like to donate to the overall event and not to a team or individual. Your donation will increase the fundraising total on the event thermometer but will not support a specific team or individual participant. You will not be able to search for a specific team or individual participant to which to donate.

Walk Information:

Date: Saturday, October 1, 2011
Location: Principal Park, 1 Line Drive, Des Moines, IA 50309
Parking: Located in front of the stadium. Free. Handicap accessible parking is located in the stadium parking lot. First Aid and Lost & Found are located at the Registration table near Gate C.

Schedule of Events:

8:00 AM Check-in for participants opens:

Do you Have friends or family in town? Of course you can bring them! There will be a registration and check in table located underneath Gate C. Everyone will be asked to fill in their emergency contact information on the back of their numbered bib. Parents will need to fill out bibs for their children as well.

8:00 AM Mission Mile Table Opens:

Who do you walk for? Visit the Miracle Mile Table as you enter into the walk site and purchase these special reminders of why we walk. The miracle mile markers, pictured right, can be sold to individuals who want to honor a walker or the memory of a loved one along the 1 and 3 mile walk routes.

Cost: 1 for a $10 donation, or 3 for a $25 donation.

8:00 – 9:00 AM Activities/Entertainment:

Get in the mood to walk with music by our Spotlight Entertainment, DJ Joe Kline
Make sure to stop by and visit our vendors, each will offer something interactive and unique!

Medicap: Learn about and practice inhaler techniques
Des Moines University Physicians Assistants: Have your blood pressure taken
Des Moines University Physical Therapists: Practice your breathing exercises
Mercy Home Health: Learn about portable oxygen and how to travel with oxygen
Iowa Hospice: Find out if you are at risk for COPD
Baxter/Coram: Get tested for Alpha 1
Radon: Learn about the risks associated with Radon
Iowa Tobacco Prevention Alliance: Sign messages supporting smoke-free casinos and tobacco free schools!
American Lung Association/Central Iowa Tobacco-free Partnership
Support Clean Air Act: Learn about the Support Clean Air Act
Lotus MOments
Kids Activities include face painting, and hanging out with Cubby Bear from the Iowa Cubs.
Chris Cakes will be flipping up a FREE all you can eat pancakes, sausage, orange drink, and coffee. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 – 10:30 AM.
Tyler Wishau, an avid juggler and medical student at Des Moines University will be leading the runners-while juggling- in the 5K fun run! Tyler will also be performing throughout the course of the day juggling flames and apples! A must see!
Lincoln High School Dance Team will get us jazzed up by performing a few of their routines!

Walk Begins We’re walking both a 1 mile and a 5K (3.1 mile) route. There will be signs and volunteers placed along the route to direct you and cheer you on!

10:00 AM Closing Announcements
There is no official closing ceremony. When you arrive at the finish line, there will be closing announcements made periodically, water available and a final opportunity to visit our vendors. Chris Cakes and the Vendors will be open until around 11 AM. We hope to see you next year!
