Fight for Air Climbs are unique fundraising events for the American Lung Association. They are typically held in prominent buildings, stadiums or arenas and involve climbing multiple steps. The climb is often reffered to as a "vertical road race." Participating in the Fight for Air Climb allows you to help others while accomplishing your own life goals. You're not just training for a climb, you're training for an end to lung disease. Our participants help improve the lives patients across the country and locally, here in Iowa.
No, you will not be able to register the day of the climb. Online registration will end at midnight on February 27, 2012. To register after the close of online registration, please contact the office at firstname.lastname@example.org or 515-309-9507.
Climbers have until event day to meet their minimum fundraising requirement of $100 per person ($50 for children). Climbers who have not met their fundraising requirement on event day will need to pay the outstanding amount in order to participate in the climb. Pledges made to the American Lung Association on behalf of climbers who cancel or do not participate in the Climb are non-refundable.
We ask that participants arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your climb time. This gives you time to check in/turn in donations, recieve your timing chip, check your gear and line up to be escorted to the first building.

No, your team does not have to climb all three buildings. If you are competeing for an award, four team members must climb all three buildings in the following order:

No, you can choose to climb one, two, or all three buildings, but they will be climbed in the following order: EMC Insurance Companies (building 1), Hub Tower (building 2), and Des Moines Marriott Downtown (building 3). For example, if you are climbing one building, you will climb EMC Insurance Companies building.
Practicing in the buildings before the event date will NOT be possible.
Yes, packet pick-up will be held on Friday March 2, 2012 from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. and on Saturday March 3, 2012 from 8 a.m. -12 Noon. At packet pick up, you will be asked to turn in your remaining fundraising dollars and will receive your bib number and technical t-shirt. Timing chips will be distributed on event day.
You should plan to arrive 30 minutes before your start time.
You will receive a timing chip and a tie-wrap to attach the timing chip to your shoe at check in on event day. Timing chips need to be placed on your shoe or near your ankle to ensure that the chip can be read from the floor mat. All climbers will receive one chip at check in and it will be removed upon completion of the event.
Yes, you may bring your own water bottle to the climb.
Yes, you may use your i-Pod or mp3 player while climbing. Please be cautious and mindful of the volume of your music and your presence in the stairwell as it relates to climbers around you. You are asked to turn the volume off or only use one earbud during start line announcements and approaching the finish line.
