Event Information

Are you up for the challenge? Take the stair climb challenge and climb over 440 steps to the top of Phillips Point! Individuals, families, corporate, and firefighter teams are invited to climb 20 stories to the top of Phillips Point West Tower in downtown West Palm Beach. This unique event allows individuals to climb new heights to physically challenge themselves, race for the best time or cross the finish line in honor or memory of a loved one with lung disease. All climbers will finish the climb with a whole new appreciation for their lungs. The American Lung Assocation is proud to present this event to promote lung cancer awareness, research, advocacy and education. Each year, too many lives are lost to lung disease and this is your chance to climb, raise money and make an impact in their honor. By joining the Fight for Air Climb Palm Beach, you are making the commitment to fight lung disease so everyone can breathe easier- including you! 

General Event Information

All participants are encourged to register early and to have a minimum of $100 in pledges received by the day of the climb. There is a $15 early bird registration fee and a minimum fundraising goal of $100 for all Climbers that sign up by October 1st. Anyone that registers beginning on October 2nd through November 14th, will have a $25 registration fee per climber and a minimum fundraising goal of $100. The registration fee and minimum fundraising goal are required per climber in order to participate in the event, whether you are an individual or on a team. Registration fees increase to $35 beginning on Monday, November 14th. Day of event registrations are welcome.  The $135 registration fee and minimum donation will be required.
 1. All participants are professionally timed and ranked by timing chips.
 2. All climbers will receive an official Fight For Air Climb t-shirt, medal, towel, giveaways and refreshments.
 3. Fundraising incentives will be given to fundraisers who raise $150 and over. Start early and you will easily reach your fundraising goal!
 4. All participants are invited to join us in the Phillips Point courtyard for an after party.
 5. Awards will be given to fastest climbers, top fundraisers and top teams.

Participation

You can register as an individual, as a member of an existing team or as the captain of a new team. Teams must consist of at least 3 or more people (this is for timing purposes). Participants registering as a member of a team, please note that the TEAM CAPTAIN has to register online first before you can. You can also register as a spectator for a $10 fee. Spectators can be there to support their climbers and join in at the after party for snacks and refreshments. *Please note spectators do not receive t-shirts. T-shirts may be purchased upon availability.

Team Overview

Why climb alone when you can form a team with family, friends and co-workers? It's a great way to challenge your friends in a friendly competition, climb in honor of a loved one or encourage team building with your co-workers, but most importantly it's just FUN! Your team will support each other as you train, fundraise and compete in the event together. As a team you can easily manage your team's progress with your own team's personal webpage. Training and Preparation

Try climbing in your office building, climb at a local park or school that has outdoor bleachers, or train at your local gym on a stair climber. It is suggested that you wear comfortable clothing, appropriate for an intense cardio workout.  Proper shoes are essential.  Running, walking, or cross training shoes are key to a successful climb.  Visit our Fitness Challenge page for tips on how to prepare for the climb of your life.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Hyatt Place West Palm Beach is our sponsoring hotel.  They are offering Fight For Air Climb participants a $99 a night rate which includes a complimentary breakfast and free Wi-FI.  They are located at 295 Lakeview Ave, West Palm Beach FL  33401.  Call 561-655-1454 to make reservations.

Event Day

Free parking will b in the Phillips Point parking garage located on the northwest corner Lakeview Ave and Chase just west of the Phillips Point Towers in downtown West Palm Beach.

Please arrive at least 30 - 45 minutes prior to your start time (start times will be emailed and will appear on this website on November 15th) in order to register and get your bib and timing chip. Event day check in and registration is located in the courtyard at Phillips Point.

Again, start times will be e-mailed to you prior to the event, so it is important that you include your email address when registering. The sooner you register, the more likely we are able to accommodate your requested start time. Check-in begins at 8:00 AM. The climb starts at 9:00 AM with start times assigned in 30 second intervals. Teams will be assigned consecutive start times so everyone in the team can climb together.

Your timing chip will be given to to you the morning of the event at the registration and check in table in the courtyard. Your bib number must be displayed at all times during the event. Individuals are responsible for returning their timing chips at the finish line. Any unreturned chips will cost the participant $30.

All climbers should be in line at the west tower stairwell prior to your start time. Line monitors will assist you in lining up in the right area as climbers will proceed in 30 second intervals. While climbing, if you notice that you are "faster" than other participants, please pass to the left of those climbers.

If you must exit in case of an emergency or you are unable to complete the climb, please seek security, volunteer or medical staff for assistance to be properly escorted from the stairwell.  EMT and volunteers will be stationed at select exits in the stairwells.  There is no exit until the 7th level.  Please ask another climber to alert  security, EMT or a volunteers that you need assistance.

Timing Results and Awards

Official results will be posted in intervals throughout the Climb at the post party in the courtyard of Phillips Point. They will also be posted immediately after the race on the Fleet Feet Sports Orlando website. You will also be able to find times and results on this website on November 19th, in the afternoon after the climb.

Certificates will be given out to both females and males who place 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the following age groups:
10-19
20-29
30-39
40-49
50-59
60+

TEAM RANKINGS - 1st, 2nd and 3rd place (best times). Team ranking will be based on the finishing time of your top 3 climbers.

The deadline to raise money for incentives is Friday, December 2nd. A coupon to redeem your prize will be mailed to you after December 2, 2011.  If you would like for all of the funds you raised to support our mission then you can waive your rights to incentive prizes during registration or by calling our office at 800-330-5864.
