Dr. Lynn Gerald is Canyon Ranch Endowed Chair and Professor in the Department of Health Promotion Sciences, College of Public Health, at the University of Arizona (UofA) and Associate Director of Clinical Research for the Asthma and Airways Disease Research Center. She is a nationally known expert in asthma and community based clinical trials and has had 20 years of continuous funding from National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) for school-based asthma interventions. Dr. Gerald received a BS in Psychology from UAB in 1990, a MA in Sociology from the University of South Alabama in 1992, a MSPH in Epidemiology and a PhD in Medical Sociology from UAB in 1997.
Dr. Gerald has extensive experience in the areas of clinical, behavioral and epidemiological respiratory research. In addition to serving as the Principal Investigator (PI) of the American Lung Association Airways Clinical Research Center at the UofA, she is the PI of an National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded grant examining effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a school based asthma program. She has served as PI or Investigator on many multi-center clinical trial networks including: Investigator for the NIH funded AsthmaNet; Investigator for the Lung Health Studies; and Investigator for the Clinical Research Network.
Dr. Gerald is a member of the Clinical Trials Review Standing Study Section for the NHLBI. Her recent awards include the 2015 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), College of Arts and Sciences; the 2014 Behavioral Science Assembly Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Thoracic Society and the 2014 Health Equality Award for Clinical Programs from the American Thoracic Society.
