Funding Research Directly Impacts Patient Care [Infographic]

The mission of the American Lung Association is to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease, and funding research is how we get there. For over a century, the American Lung Association has funded thousands of critical lung disease research projects. These projects include examining the cause and prevention of lung diseases like tuberculosis, asthma, COPD and lung cancer, as well as how to manage and eradicate lung disease.

Since 2008 we have dedicated $79 million dollars to directly impact patient care and find cures, and we don't plan on stopping until we get closer to a world free of lung disease.

Now is a particularly exciting time to be studying lung disease—young researchers today will learn more about the biology of lung disease in their career than we have learned so far in the history of medicine. Steve Shapiro, MD, former member of the Lung Association Research Team and current Executive Vice President, Chief Medical and Scientific Officer and President of the Health Services Division at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center
