Grammy Award-winning singer Patti LaBelle is passionate about lending her powerful voice to the LUNG FORCE initiative. Patti lost two of her sisters to lung cancer in their early 40s and is dedicated to encouraging more women to make their lung health a priority.
"It's very important to me to share my voice in memory of my sisters. Their story is all too common – in the U.S., one woman will die from lung cancer every 8 minutes. Unfortunately, most lung cancer cases are diagnosed late, when treatment options are limited, but there is hope and progress happening. I'm proud to be a part of the fast-growing LUNG FORCE initiative and passionate about encouraging others to join and take action so we can defeat lung cancer."
Legendary TV and Broadway actress Valerie Harper, known for her role as Rhoda Morgenstern in The Mary Tyler Moore Show and its spin-off, Rhoda, is a lung cancer survivor. She's sharing her personal story about her battle with lung cancer and the impact it's had on her in an effort to inspire women to understand the real risks of lung cancer and join the LUNG FORCE initiative.
"If you have lungs, you're at risk for lung cancer, and I'm living proof of this. Which is why I'm thrilled to join the LUNG FORCE initiative to help raise awareness, educate women about the realities of lung cancer and the misunderstanding that causes it to be underfunded and overlooked."
Music star and media darling Kellie Pickler knows first-hand the impact lung cancer can have on women. When Kellie was only 15, her beloved grandmother passed away from lung cancer a day after she was diagnosed. Kellie later dedicated her first album, and the song “My Angel,” to the memory of her grandmother.
Kellie is working to inspire more women to get involved in the fight against lung cancer.
"I'm raising my voice to let women know there is hope in the fight against lung cancer. Join me and the LUNG FORCE initiative by taking the pledge to spread awareness of lung cancer in women, reduce lung cancer risks and support those affected."
Jewel, an internationally known Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter is proud to raise her voice as part of the LUNG FORCE initiative. In fact, she was so moved by LUNG FORCE and its mission to make lung cancer a cause that people care about and act on that she decided to write a song especially for it.
"Since I have become a mom, I make sure I'm making healthy choices for my family and for me. I've made it my personal mission to ensure that women understand that anyone can get lung cancer. It's the number one cancer killer of women. I want to rally women to take action and increase our odds of survival."
Female NASCAR standout Mackena Bell pushes the limits on the racetrack, but when it comes to health matters, she doesn't take chances. In fact, after losing a loved one to lung cancer, Mackena felt compelled to speak up about lung cancer and educate others about lung cancer's real risk factors.
"I was devastated when I lost my grandfather, Papa, to lung cancer. He was my rock and was always supportive of my racing career. I'm joining LUNG FORCE, an initiative which educates and rallies people together to end lung cancer, because it's something I'm truly passionate about and a cause the general public should care about, too."
