LUNG FORCE Heroes

Sharon D

First let me say: I was never a smoker. I received my diagnosis in November 2010. The tumor was in the lower left lobe of the lung and was confined so they removed that section and no further treatment was needed. It was Stage 1B NSC Adenocarcinoma. I received CT Scans every six month for two years and then yearly check-ups. In August 2014, I had my CT scan and was told the cancer had returned to the same lung and was also in my liver. I was very devastated as you can only imagine. I called my doctor and explained my issues and was given an appointment in September.

A biopsy test of the liver reported it was NSC Adenocarcinoma which had metastasized from the lung. I was put on Tarceva, a drug that targets people with EGRF in their body and had radiation on the liver in February 2015. Shortly after that I was NED until January 2016. I just finished 15 rounds of radiation to the lung and have a follow up appointment in just a couple weeks. The Tarceva has some bad side effects but not unbearable. I thank God for my doctors and the staff at the hospital.

Cancer is a battle and if you have never been told you have it as a diagnosis you just don't know how it feels. Being positive, having great friends and family and reading healing has helped me on this journey with my battle of this horrible disease. My prayer is a cure for cancer soon. I have a beautiful daughter and a precious granddaughter and a wonderful husband. I have a yorkie dog as well; her name is Maggie and she is always by my side. Even though I can have a pity party some days, I have so much to be thankful for. Thanks for letting me share my journey of this dreaded disease with you.
