I turned 65 this year. I quit smoking 5 years ago on my 60th Birthday. But prior to that I smoked a pack a day for over 40 years. My father died from emphysema when he was 72 and had smoked most of his life, so although I quit 5 years ago, I knew that the possibility of developing lung cancer was a reality. So at my recent yearly physical, my doctor suggested a low dose CT scan. It was quick and easy and I just got my results -- all clear! I will follow up each year but the relief alone was worth the effort. I know that early detection gives you the best chance of survival so why not take advantage of today's medical advances?
